Food insecurity is a critical concern in our communities. In Wake County, where the Raleigh Convention Center is located, over 100,000 residents are grappling with insufficient food or inconsistent access to meals. The Convention Center is actively addressing this issue through their Share a Meal program, a significant force in the battle against hunger.
More Than a Meal
The Share Your Meal program was born just before the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. The concept was straightforward yet impactful: organizations ordering meals could 'round up' and donate the equivalent of extra meals to The Food Bank of Central and Eastern North Carolina. To amplify the effect, Sodexo Live! and the Raleigh Convention Center pledged to match 100% of contributions, effectively doubling the number of meals donated.
This initiative was introduced into the menu with the hope of making a tangible difference in the community. "Since then, we've had so much interest," said James Jenkins, Sodexo Live! General Manager. "It's been a powerful reminder that a single idea can spark significant change."
The Share Your Meal program has had a substantial impact. In the past year alone, the program has been able to donate over 60,000 meals. "We hope this act of 'paying it forward' inspires everyone to carry on the spirit of contributing."
